The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear

This week during our writer's workshop block we read this book, The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear. Together, we wrote a letter to the bear to tell him to stop eating Mouse's strawberries. The students were surprised and completely delighted to find that the bear had left letters in their writing folders in response. They were so excited to rip open their envelopes and discover what the 'bear' had written! We read the letter together and responded in our writing folders. We will continue to refer back to this book throughout this week. We will be talking about our sense of taste, and will make a list of our favorite foods.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

The kids love this! We have read the book and watched the video several times. Careful... the tune is quite catchy!

Share Time

Every day during our closing time we have 'share time'. Three or four students share something with the class and then they get to pick someone to ask them a question about what they shared. Students may share a story, thought, book, or something from home. If your child wants to tell the class about a particular event for his/her share time, it might help if they brought a picture to help them remember what they want to say. If your child wishes to bring a toy or object to school for share time, please remind him/her to keep it zipped up in the backpack until it is their turn at the end of the day.

We will also be using this time to work on our oral language skills. We will be having focus 'wh' words (either who, what, when, where, or why) and the students have to think of a question to ask that starts with the focus 'wh' word. The student who is sharing will have to answer the 'wh' question. We will encourage the students to use full sentences and build their oral language/public speaking skills. It should be fun! :)

Each child is assigned a day to ensure that everyone gets the same number of turns. Please refer to the list below to remember what day your child has 'share time'.

A Few Songs We Like to SIng

Here is a link to Agent 23 Skidoo's I Gotta Be Me. We sing and dance to this song in class and talk about how it is good to appreciate people for who they are, and also to be who we want to be.

Here is a Youtube video that we like to watch. It is the song, Numbers Help Me Count by Mark D. Pencil and friends.

Our First Day of School!

We had a fantastic first day! Here we are reading One Moose, Twenty Mice. On every page, there was a cat "hiding" behind the numbers and looking for the mice. We counted the animals and then the children pointed to the cat. They thought it was so funny!

Here they are dancing! They love moving to music!
